Tottenham make move to hire Igor Tudor – here’s what he can bring to the club

Tottenham are reportedly considering appointing Igor Tudor as their new manager.

According to a report from Marca journalist Matteo Moretto via X on Friday, Tottenham are weighing up a move for Tudor.

Moretto reports that the former Juventus manager is a ‘strong candidate’ for the Spurs vacancy, and that contact has already been made between the two camps.

Tottenham have been on the search for a new manager since Thomas Frank was sacked following the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday.

What sort of manager is Igor Tudor?

Having only been appointed as Juventus manager in March 2025, Tudor was already out in Turin come October last year.

During his time with the Italian giants, the 47-year-old Croatian almost exclusively played with a back three, and more specifically, in a 3-4-2-1 system.

There were occasions in which he would alternate to a 3-5-2, and did play with four defenders at times too, but for the most part, it was his preferred 3-4-2-1 that he deployed his Juve side in.

A big component of Tudor’s approach was pressing high and aggressively up the pitch, with a real emphasis placed on winning and turnovers as close to the opposition goal as possible.

As detailed in the above graphic from Sofascore, Tudor won 42 per cent of his 24 games in charge of Juve, but it was defensive issues that seemingly plagued his squad, conceding 1.21 times per game.

So, that could suit Tottenham’s current squad pretty well, as Spurs do have a lot of young, athletic players across the pitch in which that sort of system could be implemented with success.

Wing-backs are also a fundamental part of his tactical approach, which is something that Frank dabbled with at times in N17, but was for the most part setting his team up with four at the back.

What other managerial experience does Tudor have?

Tudor got his managerial start with Croatian giants Hajduk Split in 2013, and he stayed there until February 2015 after being in charge for one year and nine months.

He won the Croatian Cup with them in the 2012-13 season, and that remains his only trophy won as a full-time manager in his career.

Tudor then spent time in charge of PAOK, Karabukspor and Galatasaray, before landing his first job in Italian football with Udinese in 2018.

December 2019 saw him return to Hajduk Split, before first joining Juventus as an assistant to Andrea Pirlo in January 2020.

Fairly brief spells in charge of Hellas Verona, Marseille and Lazio were to come, before he once again returned to Juventus in March 2025.
