Tottenham in ‘pickle’ as Alan Shearer moots Postecoglou sack after what he saw

Alan Shearer has mooted the possibility of Ange Postecoglou being sacked if Tottenham do not win against Leicester on Sunday.

The Premier League legend is of the view that the home fixture against the Foxes on 26 January is a must-win game for Postecoglou’s side, who he feels are in a “pickle”.

He feels dropping points against Leicester, who have lost each of their last seven Premier League games and whose fans turned on Ruud van Nistelrooy after last weekend’s defeat against Fulham, will lead to fans wanting the Greek-Australian manager to be axed.

“Leicester have been really poor. I heard the chants before and after the game last weekend, and I know Spurs are in a pickle at the minute”, Shearer wrote in his column on Betfair‘s website (25 January).

“You would think after winning on Thursday night and then going again on Sunday, Spurs will have too much for them.

“If they don’t then you can just feel the ramifications of what the crowd and everyone else will be saying and feeling. I’m not convinced but I’ll go for a Spurs win.

“It’s a must-win game at home against Leicester. If they don’t, you just know what will happen, so it’s a must-win for Spurs.”

Tottenham to sack Ange Postecoglou if they lose v Leicester?

Leicester are increasingly likely to be relegated from the Premier League this season as they sit 19th in the table with 14 points after 22 games.

However, Tottenham’s recent record is not promising either. Postecoglou and Co have picked up just one win in their last 10 league games, placing them 15th in the standings.

In fact, Spurs are closer to Leicester by points than they are to fourth-placed Chelsea.

Therefore, it is no surprise that fans and pundits are talking about the possibility of Postecoglou being sacked.

The 59-year-old needs to be cut some slack as he has been without some of his best players, including Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Dominic Solanke, but there is no denying that Tottenham’s current state is unacceptable.

Postecoglou is, therefore, quickly running out of time to turn things around in North London.

Could that be the reason why Daniel Levy has not provided him with any new signings despite several injuries this winter transfer window?
