Tottenham hero in running to be new Manchester United manager after Amorim exit news

Manchester United could be in the hunt to hire a new manager after they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final last month.

Ruben Amorim admitted after a 2-0 loss to West Ham in early May that he could step down as Man United’s manager if their rotten run of form was to continue.

Since saying that, the Portuguese boss has overseen a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League and missed out on European football with that 1-0 defeat to Spurs in Bilbao.

Ange Postecoglou also faces exit despite Tottenham triumph

Tottenham could be looking at hiring a new manager of their own soon with doubts still swirling around Ange Postecoglou’s future in North London.

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League but will be in the Champions League next season, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s scrappy goal in Bilbao going down as one of the greatest in Spurs’ history.

Spurs beat Man United four times this season.

However, it’s recently been reported that Daniel Levy has jetted out of the UK and is sounding out potential replacements for Postecoglou, even though the Aussie delivered on his promise of winning silverware in his second season in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While Levy is being tipped to hire a big-name manager, he could be in direct competition with Manchester United if Amorim walks or if Sir Jim Ratcliffe pulls the trigger.

Tottenham hero Mauricio Pochettino in running to be new Manchester United manager

One manager who Spurs and Man United could be doing battle for is USA boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Paddy Power have listed the former Tottenham manager at 7/1 to replace Amorim if the ex-Sporting CP boss leaves Old Trafford.

Massimiliano Allegri (4/1) is the current favourite, while Kieran McKenna (9/2) is also in the running, along with another ex-Spurs manager in Jose Mourinho (6/1).

Pochettino’s return to Tottenham has also been speculated in recent months.

However, the Argentine seems committed to his job in charge of the USA, who will be hosting the World Cup next year.

It’s unlikely that a return to the Premier League would be on Poch’s mind right now when an opportunity to manage the host nation at a World Cup isn’t one that would usually be passed up on.
