Defoe approves of Frank’s appointment at Tottenham

Defo is a popular figure in North London, ranking seventh in the all-time Tottenham goalscoring charts.

Several eyebrows were raised when Tottenham confirmed their decision to sack Postecoglou after the Australian won the UEFA Europa League.

However, Defoe believes Frank will be a successful replacement, having experienced firsthand what the Dane and his assistant coach, Justin Cochrane, can offer.

In quotes shared via Football London (13 June), Defoe said, “I spent a day with him [Frank] last season, went into Brentford with [Justin] Cochrane, spent a day just to watch training, see how they did things there and it was amazing, I was so impressed.

“Unbelievable man, unbelievable coach and for all the Tottenham fans listening, you’ve got a top manager there.”

Tottenham fans will need to give Frank time

There have been countless opinions circulating about Frank since he was appointed – some good, some bad. However, it seems that many have already written the former Brentford boss off without giving him a chance.

This is a coach who established the Bees as a mid-table Premier League side after gaining promotion from the Championship in 2021.

The 51-year-old can offer Spurs a level of Premier League experience that Postecoglou did not have. Indeed, during his two-year stay at Tottenham, Postecoglou suffered more defeats in the league than victories.

This was no doubt a huge reason why he was shown the door despite delivering Tottenham their first trophy in 17 years. Frank has managed to transform Brentford into a mid-table Premier League side that presents a challenge to the ‘Big Six’ with limited resources.

Therefore, with the wealth of resources at Levy’s disposal, Frank’s possibilities at Tottenham are endless. However, Levy needs to back his manager, and Spurs supporters need to give Frank time to implement his ideas.

Success won’t be instant as Tottenham undergo another rebuild. However, if patience is shown in North London, Frank could surpass Postecoglou’s achievements.
