Tottenham handed James Maddison training ground boost pre-Liverpool – report

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is set to be fit for the visit of Liverpool following an injury scare during the north London derby, according to Football London.

The news organisation reported online (28 September) that the 26-year-old midfielder has been training on the grass at Hotspur Way this week ahead of Spurs’ Premier League meeting with the Reds on Saturday (30 September).

Maddison went down holding his knee midway through the second half during the club’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates last Sunday (24 September).

He was able to play on, although had to be taken off with ten minutes to go. Tottenham have been monitoring his condition and so far the majority of the feedback has been positive.

Ex-Spurs Scout Bryan King tells Tottenham News:

“I would say after watching him against Arsenal, who are regarded in the same group of class in the Premier League as Liverpool, his involvement is extremely important.

“He has shown what an influence he is during the opening seven matches of the season, so him playing is a major factor.

“It would certainly make things a lot harder for the side if he wasn’t involved because he seems to have been, not only for his manager but for the rest of the players as well, so central. I just feel that it is very difficult to replace him.”
