Tottenham gem Will Lankshear sends message as forward undergoes surgery

Will Lankshear will be hoping to break through at Tottenham in the near future.

The young striker did his chances no harm by showing good strength and instinct to score the first goal of the Thomas Frank era in Tottenham’s 2-0 victory against Reading (19 July).

The 20-year-old has seemingly stolen ahead of fellow academy graduate Dane Scarlett in the pecking order and will be hoping to be given another chance to prove his credentials throughout pre-season.

Lankshear’s character and ability have been highly regarded at Spurs since the 20-year-old joined from Sheffield United in August 2022, and he was quick to react to recent injury news.

Romaine Mundle undergoes surgery

Daniel Levy has committed to building up the academy at Spurs, with Oliver Boast set to be the latest recruit to enter Hotspur Way.

In recent years, very few players have managed to break into Tottenham‘s first team for a sustained period and instead moved on in search of regular game time.

One of them is Romaine Mundle, who left Spurs to join Standard Liege in 2023, before joining Sunderland a year later.

He has found his home at the Stadium of Light and contributed to the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League last season.

However, the former Tottenham youngster twice injured his hamstring in the most recently completed campaign and suffered a recurrence of the problem in Portugal week, resulting in him needing surgery.

Mundle uploaded a post on Instagram with a picture of himself at the hospital (20 July), claiming that he was “devastated” but that the surgery went well.

Lankshear, who spent a year with the 22-year-old winger in Spurs’ academy, responded to the message with a red heart.

Spurs already have injuries of their own

Tottenham players are well placed to know what Mundle is feeling after almost every player in the squad suffered at least one injury in the last year.

Frank still has James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Radu Dragusin recovering from long-term injuries, while Manor Solomon and Kota Takai suffered minor setbacks last week.

The former Bees manager is hoping to have Richarlison back available ahead of Luton this weekend, but will be desperate to avoid a similar situation to last season.

He is working hard to build up the team’s fitness with rigorous training during pre-season to avoid that fate, while Levy has already made adjustments to the medical department this summer.
