Tottenham fans will love what Alan Shearer has said ahead Manchester United match

Alan Shearer has had his say ahead of this weekend’s Premier League showdown between Tottenham and Manchester United.

Spurs host Man United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February), aiming to bounce back from exiting the EFL Cup and FA Cup in successive matches.

Those quickfire cup exits have only increased the sack pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou, who may well already have one foot out the door.

Focus now switches back to the Premier League, with Manchester United themselves struggling as they sit just one place better off than Spurs in 13th.

However, what Shearer has said ahead of the match will go down very well with those of a Tottenham persuasion.

Alan Shearer predicts Tottenham v Manchester United result

Writing in his weekly prediction column for The Metro [14 February], Shearer predicted a home win and explained his reasons why.

That alone will be celebrated by Lilywhites fans, albeit Shearer did caveat his prediction of a Tottenham win by pointing out how bad they have been.

“It’s a tough one to call. Man United had a good result in the FA Cup but I certainly wasn’t impressed with them,” he said.

“Spurs were really weak against Aston Villa. Two teams who have been massively struggling for different reasons. Because Spurs have beaten them already this season, I’ll go for a home win.

Tottenham record v Manchester United

Spurs have indeed already defeated Manchester United in North London this season, doing so with a thrilling 4-3 victory in the EFL Cup in December.

Gary Neville was shocked by an “appalling” moment in that seven-goal thriller, but Postecoglou’s men ultimately did enough to advance.

Tottenham were also 3-0 winners at Old Trafford in the reverse league fixture, remember, while they are now four without defeat against United in all competitions.

It is little wonder, then, that Shearer is going for a home win, even if Tottenham have been pretty terrible this season.

And Harry Redknapp also cannot see a Manchester United win, so let’s just hope the pair are spot on with their predictions.

Should that be the case and Tottenham go on to pick up all three points, the table will all of a sudden look a little better.

Defeat, on the other hand, and you really do have to fear for Postecoglou with only the Europa League then left to play for.
