Tottenham exit on cards for Davinson Sanchez as Monaco want transfer – report

Tottenham centre-back Davinson Sanchez has now emerged as a summer target for AS Monaco, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition (17 August), the Colombian international has been made available for transfer at the right price and the French Ligue 1 side are willing to sign him this summer.

The Telegraph reports that Spartak Moscow made a £12.9 million bid for the former Ajax defender earlier in the window but the player was reluctant to move to Russia, while Galatasaray have also shown interest in taking him to Turkey.

And should Sanchez get his transfer exit this summer, Spurs are set to make an inevitable loss on his sale.

Days are numbered

Tottenham’s defence has been the source of much criticism in recent seasons. Sanchez himself was hooked off the pitch after just 23 minutes in April at Bournemouth to jeers from the away support in what felt like the end of his Spurs career.

The Colombia international remains one of the most expensive signings in Spurs’ history but it’s fair to say that he hasn’t really lived up to his price tag.

Sanchez played 142 times for Tottenham in the Premier League with only 18 appearances coming last season. He started just eight times in 2022/23, suggesting that the club could really do without the 27-year-old and with his contract expiring next year, cashing in while they can is the right call, even if they are to make a significant loss.

Ange Postecoglou has already made his desire for a new centre-back clear after the addition of Micky Van de Ven and that ambition can’t be fulfilled if Spurs are unable to sale the Colombian international.

Monaco represents the ideal next step for Sanchez to revive his career as his days as a Tottenham continue to be numbered, it’s best for all parties that he’s moved on very soon because Spurs may not have enough time left to get a quality replacement in with just two weeks of the window still to go.

In other Tottenham news, one player is in talks with a European club to finally seal his long-awaited North London exit.
