Tottenham ‘delighted’ as defender officially agrees terms at Hotspur Way

Tottenham have some of the best academy talent across England, and they continue to reward that progression under Ange Postecoglou.

The current campaign has witnessed Spurs academy graduate Mikey Moore handed 16 senior appearances, in which he has notched one goal and two assists.

Fellow youth product Jamie Donley has thrived while on loan with Leyton Orient and has been called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, the regular presence of summer signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in Postecoglou’s starting line-up has provided a clear nod to Tottenham’s commitment to young talent.

Spurs thrilled as Malachi Hardy pens his first professional contract

Defender Malachi Hardy has become the latest Spurs academy product to put pen to paper on a professional deal with the club.

The 17-year-old will hope to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Moore as he looks to battle for a spot in the senior team.

The Tottenham Hotspur academy posted on X: “We are delighted to confirm that 17-year-old centre-back Malachi Hardy has signed his first professional contract with the club.

“Congratulations, Malachi.”

Postecoglou’s Tottenham future remains in doubt

Postecoglou deserves plaudits for handing young talent such as Gray and Bergvall plenty of game time for Spurs’ first team this campaign.

However, the positive performances of their young players have just been one positive within an otherwise largely woeful season for the North London giants.

Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Fulham on Sunday left Postecoglou’s men just 14th in the Premier League with only nine games left to play.

Spurs also endured an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final last month, and a premature FA Cup exit followed just three days later when they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa.

The Europa League is the only silverware Tottenham are still able to win this season, but Bundesliga high-flyers Frankfurt could prove to be tough opposition in the quarter-finals.

The North London club have already eyed Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola as candidates to replace Postecoglou.

Whoever is in charge, though, will always have an army of unbelievable talent raring to go.
