Tottenham ‘could now hire former Premier League manager’ amid ‘crisis’

Tottenham could seek to replace manager Ange Postecoglou this summer, and a lot of names have now been linked.

Spurs have a Europa League semi-final clash with Bodo/Glimt coming up to save their season, but even if they win the trophy, they may change manager.

Postecoglou may depart regardless of what happens given the dismal season Tottenham have endured, but a wide range of names have been touted as his replacement.

Italians Thiago Motta and Carlo Ancelotti have been mooted as shock options, while Mauricio Pochettino has also been linked with a return, but another surprise name has now emerged.

Roberto De Zerbi admired by Tottenham

Former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has now emerged as a target for Tottenham this summer if Postecoglou does exit the club.

A report from TBR Football has claimed that Tottenham are admirers of De Zerbi, with the 45-year-old’s previous work impressing them.

Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille

De Zerbi is currently managing Ligue 1 side Marseille, but he is embroiled in a crisis at the French club. Results have slipped in recent months, and they were nowhere near Paris Saint-Germain in the title race.

Tensions are building within the squad at Marseille with The Guardian reporting that after heavy investment, pressure is on De Zerbi to improve things.

If De Zerbi is dismissed by Marseille, it could make him a viable target for Tottenham this summer, but there may be some reservations.

Could De Zerbi do well at Tottenham?

De Zerbi was a transformative figure at Brighton, taking them to Europe for the first time in their history despite losing key players.

His work at Shakhtar Donetsk was also impressive, and prior to his Marseille move, he was one of the most sought-after coaches in Europe.

However, De Zerbi’s spell at Marseille has raised questions over his man-management skills, albeit at a club with a lot of big characters in the squad.

With Spurs needing a potentially huge rebuild, De Zerbi may not be the most stable option, but he could quickly improve Tottenham in the short run while also employing an attacking brand of football, which would buy him time with the fans.
