Tottenham concern as regulations reveal Lucas Bergvall return timeline after concussion vs Chelsea

Lucas Bergvall looks set for some time on the sidelines after his early substitution against Chelsea.

Ahead of the London showdown, Tottenham wanted to bounce back after losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, but were unable to do so against their local rivals on Saturday night.

Tottenham lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the Premier League, as Randal Kolo Muani continues to struggle.

Djed Spence was the centre of attention for Tottenham after he was caught on camera walking past and ignoring Thomas Frank after the full-time whistle, but the Lilywhites’ concerns don’t stop there.

Bergvall was taken off just minutes into the game, which disrupted Frank‘s plans, as a timeline for the midfielder’s return has emerged.

Lucas Bergvall could be out for weeks for Tottenham

So far this campaign, Bergvall has been a top performer for Frank and is usually one of the only positives to come out of a poor result like the Chelsea one.

However, after receiving a ball to the face at high force, Bergvall was forced to leave the field, with concerns over a concussion mounting, despite his complaints.

According to the FA, regulations state that players who are concussed must complete a Graduated Return to Play (GRTP) programme, which takes a minimum of six days, as a mild concussion typically leaves players out for seven to 10 days.

X user, Vergard, shared a clip that was broadcast live by Sky Sports during the Tottenham and Chelsea game, which further shows proof of the extent of Bergvall’s concussion.

With the way Bergvall was moving, it could be possible that he has suffered a moderate concussion and could miss the North London derby, later in November, but that appears unlikely at this stage.

What did Thomas Frank say about Bergvall’s concussion?

Bergvall was taken off in the seventh minute against Chelsea, as Frank was questioned on the severity of his injury in his post-match interviews.

After the game, Frank admitted that Bergvall did indeed suffer a concussion, as the midfielder will now almost certainly miss the Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday.

Frank said, as quoted by The Standard: “That was a concussion. So he totally couldn’t stay on, and I think the medical team did a good job in that aspect.”

It’s a huge blow for the Lilywhites, as Bergvall is going to be missed at N17, with pressure mounting on Frank ahead of some huge games.
