Tottenham break silence on Fabio Paratici return as ‘dramatic Levy card’ emerges

Fabio Paratici continues to be linked with a return to Tottenham as his 30-month ban from football nears an end.

The Italian transfer guru was forced to step down from his role as the managing director of football at Tottenham in April 2023 after being handed a 30-month ban for his involvement in alleged false accounting at his former club, Tottenham.

While Paratici has been allowed to work as an external adviser, he is gearing up to return to a full-time position in football when his ban is lifted in July.

AC Milan have laid the groundwork to rope him in as their new sporting director already, but a return to Spurs has also been mooted.

Daniel Levy has continued to seek advice from Paratici over the last two years and reportedly held a meeting with him over a return to North London last week, putting a ‘rich’ offer on his table.

Tottenham react to Paratici return news

Paratici’s attraction to Milan is genuine, but Levy could yet play ‘one dramatic card’ by restoring Paratici in a full-time role at Tottenham, according to The Athletic.

However, Spurs have distanced themselves from the possibility of the 52-year-old returning, with the club informing the news outlet that ‘nothing is happening in that regard’.

There is no rush to make such a move, considering Paratici’s ban is not removed until July and he is still an influential figure at the Premier League.

It is also worth noting that Tottenham also have technical director Johan Lange and chief football officer Scott Munn in place.

Meanwhile, it is ‘inconceivable’ that Levy would hire a replacement for Ange Postecoglou if he decides to do so without consulting Paratici, whether or not he is hired permanently.

Spurs talks ‘wide of mark’

The Telegraph reported on Friday (28 March) that reports about Levy holding talks with Paratici over a return to Spurs are wide of the mark.

However, there is nothing to suggest that Levy would not favour such a return.

It remains to be seen how the Tottenham chairman would react if Milan stipulated that Paratici can no longer deal with the North London giants if he were to join them as their sporting director.
