Tottenham board ‘blown away by their new top target to replace Postecoglou’

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a new manager with Ange Postecoglou facing being sacked.

Daniel Levy has not backed Postecoglou since the campaign has come to a close, despite the Australian winning the Europa League title.

Reports suggest that Postecoglou is set for the sack, with Spurs’ awful Premier League campaign being a major criticism.

If this occurs, Levy will have to find a replacement for the Australian, with manager candidates touted for the role.

Thomas Frank number one choice to replace Postecoglou at Spurs

Thomas Frank has been linked with the Tottenham job for some time.

The Brentford boss has been extremely impressive at the Bees and has overseen their rise to become a mid-table Premier League side.

Frank had been the bookies’ favourite to take over at Tottenham since the end of the current campaign.

Now, it seems that the Dane is one step closer to taking the job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to Football Insider (4 June), Frank is now emerging as the number one choice to take over from Postecoglou at Spurs.

Numerous options have been explored, with Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola considered.

However, Tottenham have become “increasingly convinced” that Frank is the right man for the job.

The 51-year-old’s proven Premier League track record and his ability to develop players have ticked key boxes.

The Spurs hierarchy are also said to be “impressed” with Frank’s staying power, having previously managed Brentford in the Championship.

Frank isn’t an upgrade on Postecoglou

After a poor Premier League campaign, firing Postecoglou shouldn’t be out of the question, even though he won the Europa League.

However, Levy had to ensure that whoever came in was on an upgrade on the Australian. Unfortunately, Frank is not.

Frank is yet to manage a big club

The Dane has never taken on a club of Tottenham’s size before and is yet to win a trophy.

It is hard to see why Spurs would sack Postecoglou for Frank, as the Bees manager could easily be out of his depth in the role.

Hopefully, Tottenham reassess their options and look at other targets before making a decision.
