Tottenham ready to seal Angel Gomes transfer as talks well underway

Tottenham are enduring a difficult Premier League season, but they are already laying the groundwork in place for this summer’s transfer window.

Spurs sit just 13th in the Premier League following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, although Ange Postecoglou can take heart from the comeback to salvage a point against a Cherries side who could well be plying their trade in a European competition next term.

Postecoglou’s men were also dumped out of the FA Cup last month, after being beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa just three days on from their demoralising 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Tottenham’s hopes of lifting silverware at the end of the season rest in the Europa League, where they have to fight back from a 1-0 aggregate deficit from the first leg of their round of 16 clash with Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.

Tottenham ready to sign Angel Gomes

Spurs supporters may find it difficult to think ahead to next season, amid growing pressure on Postecoglou.

Meanwhile, Daniel Levy has been subject to dissent from the fanbase again, who have questioned his decision making in recent protests.

Despite this, Football Transfers has reported that Spurs are in talks to seal a free transfer for Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.

The report says that Spurs have already initiated talks with Gomes, whose contract with Ligue 1 outfit Lille is set to expire this June.

Gomes could be a top signing for Tottenham

Part of the reason why Tottenham have struggled this season is because they have seen many star players, including summer signing Dominic Solanke and talisman Dejan Kulusevski, face injury setbacks.

The addition of England international Gomes would add more depth to their ranks, regardless of if Postecoglou remains in his post as Spurs boss.

Furthermore, Gomes is a top quality midfielder who notched two goals and 10 assists across all competitions last season, while he has continued to perform well in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League this campaign, making 20 outings despite injury problems.

His ability was endorsed by former England interim boss Lee Carsley, who handed him four senior appearances for the Three Lions, before being replaced by ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who will lead the nation in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Gomes’ exploits in both the Champions League and at international level prove that he should have what it takes to help get Tottenham moving in the right direction once more, should the North London club acquire his signature.
