Rangers new manager: Shock Tottenham target to replace Ange now favourite for Ibrox job

Ange Postecoglou is clinging on at Tottenham, with managers seemingly lining up to take over.

Spurs crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Fulham last time out in the Premier League, leaving them 14th heading into the current international break.

Postecoglou’s men were also hammered by Liverpool in their Carabao Cup semi-final last month, before being knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa just three days later.

Tottenham’s only chances of silverware this term rest in the Europa League, where they will face German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals.

Russell Martin shock emerges at Tottenham

Amid their poor season under Postecoglou, Tottenham seem increasingly likely to sack their current boss, while they have already eyed the likes of Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as potential replacements.

Spurs have also, surprisingly, identified ex-Southampton boss Russell Martin as a shock candidate to take the managerial reins in North London.

But as per the latest from Bet365, Martin is the current favourite to become the next Rangers boss, with odds at 7/4.

That would see him take the mantle at Ibrox and go to battle with Postecoglou’s former side, Celtic.

Postecoglou can retain his Tottenham job if he wins the Europa League

While Martin now appears more likely to be headed to Ibrox than to Tottenham, the fact that Spurs have identified so many potential targets to become their next manager epitomises just how much pressure Postecoglou is under.

However, now that the North London outfit has progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals, a trophy-winning campaign could be in sight.

Last eight opponents, Frankfurt sit fourth in the Bundesliga, and are certain to provide Postecoglou and Co with their greatest challenge yet as they look to advance to the semi-finals.

But Spurs showed grit and determination when they beat AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of their last 16 tie, having initially suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg.

Tottenham appear unlikely to even secure a top-half finish in the Premier League, despite usually challenging for the Champions League spots.

However, if Postecoglou manages to steer his side to the Europa League title, the club would have no choice but to retain his services.
