Tottenham ace Son Heung-min plays down South Korea injury scare
Tottenham star Son Heung-min has downplayed any fears of a potential injury as he appeared to pick up a knock during South Korea’s 5-0 win over Singapore on Thursday 16 November.
Son started and scored as South Korea kicked off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with an empathic victory over Singapore.
Although the 31-year-old appeared to be in some discomfort during the closing stages of the match as he received treatment for his right ankle after going down, before coming back onto the pitch to finish the match.
The forward could be seen walking around the pitch waving to the fans at full-time and told reporters after the game that his injury scare was nothing to worry about.
“We are making a team for the World Cup, I can’t give up a game just because I feel pain,” he told reporters, (via The Evening Standard, 17 November).
“If I can’t run anymore, then I can’t do anything about it but when I can run, I have to give 100% for the team.
“I am fine now, I don’t like to lie down [on the pitch] in the winter. At that moment [when he went down] I couldn’t feel anything on my foot. I’m fine, no injury.”
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:
“I would have thought that a second-string South Korea team could beat Singapore. I certainly would have thought that Son would be rested.
“If they get in a winning position during the game against China, they should really think about bringing him off to protect him.

“Even if there is a suspicion of injury, he cannot play. His duty is of course to represent his country, but his first duty is to play for the club that is paying his wages. He is not young, he is experienced enough to know that if he is carrying a knock, he should make his way back to London.
“Players have always wanted to play for their country, but I always feel that although it is an honour and he wants to play, in ten days’ time he will have a Premier League game against Aston Villa and he needs to make himself ready for that.”
In other Tottenham news, John Wenham believes one star at the club is beginning to cost the team.
