Tottenham ace Son Heung-min on Saudi shortlist for 2024 transfer – Ben Jacobs

Tottenham ace Son Heung-min is on a shortlist of players being courted by “Saudi dealmakers” over a potential move in 2024, according to sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs.

The South Korea international, 31, was named Spurs captain with Hugo Lloris wanting to depart the club and superstar striker Harry Kane departing for Bayern Munich.

But the forward, who is into his ninth season in north London, is seemingly being courted for a move to the lucrative Saudi Pro League further down the line.

Posting on Twitter, Jacobs wrote: “Mo Salah remains committed to Liverpool. Although Saudi interest genuine, as previously revealed Salah is only viewed as a feasible target in 2024. Will be a PIF-led move should it materialise in 12 months. Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal have both discussed Salah in the past.

“Saudi dealmakers will try for a number of names next summer. Like anyone else in football recruitment, they are planning multiple windows ahead. A provisional list is already drawn up. It also includes Son and Robert Lewandowski.”

A tough decision

On the one hand, it might seem like lunacy to contemplate letting one of your best players leave, especially given he is now the club captain and was the Premier League’s top scorer as recently as the 2021-22 campaign.

But there is little doubt that Son struggled to hit those same high standards last term, scoring 10 Premier League goals in 36 appearances.

The truth is that the times they are changing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a fact proven by the sale of Kane to Bayern.

To lose Son just a year later would feel like a blow, but the truth is he will be 32 in July 2024 and his star could be on the wane. If you could generate a relatively decent fee for him then perhaps it would be the right thing to do to cash in.

If Spurs keep their nerve and allow Ange Postecoglou to build a squad, then they could use any money earned from Son’s sale or saved from his wages on younger talent, players who will be hungry to propel Tottenham back to the upper echelons of the table.

It would perhaps be another tough goodbye, but one Spurs and their supporters should not completely rule out saying.
