Tim Sherwood shocked as Tottenham player forced off injured v Wolves

Destiny Udogie hobbled off injured against Wolves for Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Wolves took the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 29 December after just seven minutes, but Spurs equalised four minutes later with Rodrigo Bentancur wowing Tim Sherwood with his goal.

Brennan Johnson then gave the home side the lead just before half-time after Son Heung-min had missed a controversial penalty kick.

However, the second half got off to the worst possible start for Ange Postecoglou’s side as Udogie was forced off with a hamstring injury.

And while speaking on Sky Sports News’ Gillette Soccer Special (4:12 pm, 29 December), Sherwood said, “Bad news is, Udogie has gone off, it looks like he pulled up really badly with a hamstring injury.

“That is too many muscle injuries they’re getting now at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. I don’t know what they’re doing during the week but far too many muscle injuries”.

Postecoglou is already dealing with an unprecedented number of injuries in North London, with Ben Davies having recently suffered a big setback.

Therefore, the last thing that the Australian needs is for another key defender to be sidelined for a substantial amount of time. However, it looks as though that might be exactly what happens.

Based on the way Udogie reacted as he hobbled off against Wolves, it doesn’t look as though this will be a short layoff.

While it is always hard to judge an injury based purely on the player’s reaction, hamstring injuries are usually quite damaging, as Micky van de Ven has found out on multiple occasions.

As a result, Postecoglou and Udogie won’t be feeling too optimistic about this latest setback.

And with options in the squad already so limited, if this is a serious injury, it looks as though Daniel Levy could be forced to get the chequebook out in January.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou was told to leave the club after what happened ahead of the match with Wolves.
