Thomas Tuchel shares ‘huge’ message after Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham
Tottenham finally announced the sacking of Ange Postecoglou on Friday.
The historic night in Bilbao when Spurs defeated Manchester United to lift the Europa League was not enough to save the Australian’s job.
In the eyes of Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s 17th-place finish in the Premier League with 22 losses was too much to ignore.
Despite the disastrous domestic campaign, Postecoglou will always be remembered as the manager who ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought.
The Aussies’ dismissal has proven to be a highly controversial one, with notable names in the footballing world having their say.
Thomas Tuchel is the latest to speak out.

Tuchel reacts to Postecoglou’s axing at Spurs
Spurs are yet to announce who their new manager will be, however, Brentford’s Thomas Frank is currently the favourite to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of England’s games against Senegal and Andorra, Three Lions boss Tuchel reacted to Postecoglou’s sacking.
“I feel for every manager, and I have huge sympathy for every manager, especially in these moments,” the German said.
“It just shows you that it is not only about titles. You can survive seasons without titles if your connection, the support, and the belief and trust between the coach and the club officials is strong, then you can overcome seasons without titles. It happens.
“If there is slight disbelief, if there are concerns, if the trust is not there anymore, obviously, then it is sometimes not even enough to win a trophy after so many years.”
Some Tottenham supporters will never understand this decision, and understandably so.
Clubs | League Position | Losses |
Tottenham Hotspur | 17th | 22 |
Leicester City | 18th | 25 |
Ipswich Town | 19th | 24 |
Southampton | 20th | 30 |
However, a club’s league performance is a good way of judging trends surrounding a manager, and those surrounding Postecoglou were more than concerning.
Tottenham appointing Frank as their new manager is risky
With players such as Cristian Romero linked with moves away as a result of Postecoglou’s sacking, the summer transfer window looks to be a sizeable rebuild for Spurs.
No managerial appointment is without risk, but hiring Frank comes with its own set of potential issues.
The Danish manager has done a fantastic job at Brentford, securing their promotion into the Premier League and establishing his side in the division.

This is particularly impressive when considering the size of the club, but with all due respect to Brentford, managing Tottenham is a completely different level of job and the expectations that come along with that.
Whether Frank could handle this pressure is yet to be seen.
