Thomas Frank to Tottenham: ‘Big problem’ with Levy emerges amid Brentford update

Thomas Frank is edging closer to becoming the new manager of Tottenham.

The Dane looks destined to take over from Ange Postecoglou after he unsurprisingly faced the sack in North London on Friday (6 June).

This decision was ultimately made by Daniel Levy, who was clearly unhappy with his side’s 17th-place finish in the Premier League.

With the Brentford boss nearing a move across the capital, an issue has arisen that could result in friction with the Spurs chairman.

Levy and Frank could clash at Tottenham

It is clear that a change was wanted in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, regardless of lifting silverware for the first time in 17 years.

This looks set to be completed in the coming days as the Bees prepare to grant the 51-year-old’s departure from the Gtech Community Stadium.

As positive as many supporters feel this move could be for the Lilywhites, problems could soon take their toll on the Dane’s spell at the helm.

Moving from Brentford, where Frank has a high level of control and is more of a typical manager, as opposed to just being a head coach.

Former Manchester United keeper Ben Foster believes that this change in structure could cause issues for the incoming boss with Levy next season.

Speaking on the Football Fill-In (10 June), he said: “My big problem with Thomas Frank going to Spurs isn’t anything to do with Frank, it’s Daniel Levy.

“He works fantastically at Brentford, the same with Brighton, he is the manager of that football club, and he knows exactly who’s coming in and who’s going out. He’s got a system, a backup system, players already in the pipeline, and their scouting system is fantastic.

“He’ll go to Spurs and not have a say in any of that, he doesn’t get to control that. Daniel Levy will have the say, so he won’t be able to be the manager of Spurs.”

Frank may have manager demands at Tottenham

There aren’t many bosses in the Premier League who are like managers of old who took up the general running of the football club, in a similar fashion to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Arguably, the closest to this is Unai Emery at Aston Villa, with the Spaniard creating his own coaching team from top to bottom since moving to the Midlands.

This is a similar story with Frank at Brentford, and he may be hopeful of replicating that in North London after completing a move.

It is fair to say that this may prove to be beneficial for the N17 club, but it feels unlikely that Levy will allow the Dane to have that level of control.

There is every chance that this causes problems between the coaching staff and the chairman, which may not be a good look moving into the new campaign and beyond.
