Thomas Frank sparks friction in Tottenham squad as ‘double standards’ claim emerges

Thomas Frank is already under pressure at Tottenham and now rumours of potential conflict within his squad are emerging.

Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium on Wednesday evening, a result which leaves the North London side sitting 14th in the Premier League.

Mathys Tel opened the scoring for the visitors, but goals from Evanilson and Eli Junior Kroupi left Frank’s side trailing at the break.

Joao Palhinha levelled the contest with a brilliant overhead kick, but Antoine Semenyo fired in a stoppage-time winner to spark scenes of discontent in the away end.

Cristian Romero gets free pass from Thomas Frank

After the full-time whistle, Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro, and Palhinha all went over to the away end to speak to the fans.

Van de Ven was particularly annoyed with the abuse coming from the travelling support, and the controversy didn’t stop there.

Cristian Romero publicly criticised the Tottenham hierarchy in an Instagram statement later that evening, accusing those in power of hiding away.

Romero avoided internal punishment from Frank and the club, in direct contradiction with Yves Bissouma, who was dropped from the UEFA Super Cup squad in August for repeated lateness.

According to The Telegraph, one Tottenham source believes the lack of action against the Argentina international is an example of “double standards” under Frank.

Romero is the highest-paid player at Spurs, and there have already been reports that he is granted more freedom around the training ground than others.

Thomas Frank is losing control at Tottenham

Frank’s future with the North London club is already in serious doubt, given the results on the pitch.

However, his seeming lack of control behind-the-scenes is arguably more worrying, and hints that he has no respect from the players.

Djed Spence and Van de Ven both snubbed Frank earlier this season after Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea, and the situation has only gone downhill since.

The former Brentford boss has not only lost the support of the Tottenham fanbase, but he has also lost the support of his own players.
