Thomas Frank informs Brentford of his Tottenham decision as talks held

Thomas Frank is expected to be named as the new Tottenham boss following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

A deal that would see the Dane join from Brentford is underway, and Spurs chiefs hope it will be completed in the coming days.

The decision to relieve Postecoglou of his duties has faced mixed reactions, with some fans shocked by the departure of the man who ended a 17-year wait for a trophy.

Thomas Frank eager to join Spurs

Frank had emerged as Spurs’ first choice for their next manager, even in the days before Postecoglou’s exit had been confirmed.

And the North London club moved quickly to put the wheels in motion, with talks reportedly advancing well.

Frank has been in charge at Brentford since 2018 and led them out of the Championship, before helping to establish the Bees among the Premier League’s middle-pack.

The West London club are, understandably, reluctant to part ways with their manager but will not stand in the way of the 51-year-old’s wishes.

And according to Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook, those wishes are to take charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This latest report claims that Frank has told Brentford that he wants to leave, with the coach’s camp in talks with Spurs over terms.

There is reportedly a release clause in the Dane’s contract, which Tottenham may be expected to trigger – should they want their new man in place as soon as possible.

Frank will have to grapple with uncertain Spurs situation

Postecoglou had seemingly restored the faith of both his players and the Spurs fans when he led the club to Europa League glory in May, despite a torrid Premier League season.

Many thought the Australian had won over the upper management, too, and Friday’s decision to sack him brought surprise.

The announcement also looks to have blindsided some players, with Postecoglou’s departure reportedly prompting anger in the dressing room.

While Frank will be focused on bringing in new players of his own, he will also be tasked with convincing parts of the Spurs dressing room that their futures still lie in North London.

The Dane may also be left to deal with the appointment of a new club captain, with Son Heung-Min reportedly weighing up his future.

Throughout his time at Brentford, Frank has proven his ability to nurture stability and create a community within a club.

He must now show that he can fashion a similar environment, on a highly intensified, larger scale.
