Thomas Frank in ‘impossible situation’ at Tottenham after what happened in loss vs Man United
Tottenham are now winless in seven Premier League games after losing 2-0 to Man United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Captain Cristian Romero was sent off for a reckless challenge on Casemiro, and Spurs quickly unravelled from there.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring from a well-worked corner in the first half, and Bruno Fernandes sealed all three points for the Red Devils in the 81st minute.
The result leaves Spurs 14th in the league and just six points clear of the relegation zone.
Thomas Frank was under pressure going into the match, and he is faced with a tough decision that could cost him his job.

Thomas Frank have no better options who can replace Cristian Romero as captain
Romero was praised by fans for calling out the board after Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Man City last week.
Although he may have shown his leadership qualities off the pitch, the Sofascore graphic above certainly showed that he had an afternoon to forget against Michael Carrick’s side.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 8 February, Tony Cascarino believes that the Argentine deserves to be criticised, but Frank unfortunately has no better options to replace him as captain.
He said: “So who steps in as captain? Is there anyone with captain material at Tottenham? Micky Van de Ven is probably the best option.
“But it’s an impossible situation for Thomas Frank. He’s already in a tricky situation himself.

“He gave them zero chance to get the win. It doesn’t surprise me with Romero, and he’s done it in the past.
“I just think Tottenham are better off getting rid of him at the end of the season.”
Frank staunchly defended Romero and stated after the match that he wasn’t going to replace him as the skipper.
However, the 27-year-old will now miss the next four games, including the North London derby on 22 February, and it’s not the first time he has been banned for such a needless reason.
Real Madrid are interested in Romero, and it was previously reported on 11 January that they were prepared to offer around £69.4million to sign the 27-year-old, but held off on launching the bid as manager Xabi Alonso was sacked the next day.
Tottenham will be fine without Romero next season
If Romero were to leave in the summer, he wouldn’t be missed too much.
His hot-headed personality has sometimes been reflected in his teammates, and he has proven himself to be an ineffective captain.
Although being linked with Real Madrid shows his individual quality, he certainly hasn’t got the temperament to lead one of the biggest sides in the Premier League.
Tottenham already have a replacement for Romero in their ranks in Luka Vuskovic, who is thriving at Hamburg.
He would slot into the team with ease and cause a lot fewer problems in matches than the Argentine centre-back.
For now, Frank is probably making the right choice not to strip him of the captaincy, as it would likely anger fans a lot more.
However, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him leave in the summer by any means in the slightest.
