Thomas Frank already has his own Jude Bellingham at Tottenham
Tottenham is home to a midfielder who could step into world-class territory this season.
Tottenham armed Thomas Frank with several reinforcements over the summer transfer window.
This came as part of the Joe Lewis family’s decision to prioritise Spurs’ sporting success over other issues at the club. The change saw Daniel Levy step down as Tottenham chairman, while Spurs’ hierarchy continues to strive towards excellence on the pitch.
Frank has several players who can make a difference in North London. But one continues to stand out among the rest.

Lucas Bergvall a ‘Jude Bellingham type’ of player
Lucas Bergvall made history for Tottenham against West Ham as the Lilywhites comfortably departed the London Stadium with a win.
He went on to star for Spurs in their 1-0 win over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League, earning the Man of the Match award for a second time in a row.
The masses are beginning to catch on to how incredible the 19-year-old is, and this no doubt comes from Bergvall putting in the work during Tottenham training.
Former Spurs forward David Bentley is the latest player to shower the midfielder with praise, drawing comparisons with Jude Bellingham via talkSPORT on 17 September.
He said: “He’s a great player, so positive on the ball. And if you’ve got a player like that in your team, making them forward runs. He’s like that Bellingham type, sort of running forward, that’s strong with the ball.
“And his head never goes down. He makes mistakes. And he seems like a player that can brush off mistakes easily. To have a player like that in your team, it certainly sets that tempo.”
How do Lucas Bergvall and Jude Bellingham compare?
A glance at their 2024/25 league statistics reveals that Bellingham and Bergvall are closer in likeness than one would assume.
The Real Madrid midfielder trumps Spurs’ man on almost every creative metric. This can be attributed to the fact that they play different roles for their clubs, and Bellingham is naturally more of a creative player.
Bergvall | Statistic | Bellingham |
0.82 per 90 | Expected assists | 4.5 per 90 |
1 | Big chances created | 4 |
0.4 per 90 | Key passes | 1.4 per 90 |
0.9 per 90 | Interceptions | 0.9 per 90 |
1.4 per 90 | Tackles | 2.0 per 90 |
2.7 per 90 | Balls recovered | 3.1 per 90 |
0.8 per 90 | Clearances | 0.7 per 90 |
1 | Errors leading to shot | 1 |
However, their defensive stats are where things get interesting. Both made 0.9 interceptions per 90 for their respective clubs last season. Meanwhile, Bergvall recorded 0.1 more than Bellingham in clearances per game.
The Englishman has the Swede beat on tackles and balls recovered per 90, but both committed one error, which led to the opposition having a shot on goal.
Bellingham is no doubt the more complete player. But when it comes to defensive interventions, Tottenham have a gem on their hands.
