‘They’re in trouble’ – Ray Parlour explains exactly why he fears for Tottenham
Tottenham are now a little over a week away from embarking on their first season under new boss Thomas Frank.
After a rather dismal 2024-25 Premier League campaign, in which Spurs finished just one place above the relegation zone, far more is expected this coming season.
Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou and has so far seen Mohammed Kudus arrive for big money from West Ham, while Joao Palhinha this week joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich.
However, there is a general acceptance that more incomings will be required at Spurs before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
And that is certainly the view that former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour is taking.

Spurs urged to buy more players after James Maddison injury blow
Frank was this week rocked by the news that James Maddison faces missing the best part of the entire 2025-26 Premier League season through injury.
Maddison’s injury layoff coincides with club legend Son Heung-min officially joining Los Angeles FC on a permanent deal.
It means Spurs are light in attack, even accounting for the signing of Kudus and permanent arrival of Mathys Tel.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday, Parlour shared his fears for Spurs unless more recruits are brought in.
Asked if new signings are needed, he said: “Yeah, especially with them being in the Champions League.
“You need the squad and they don’t have the depth.
“If they have a couple more injuries like the Maddison one, they’re in trouble. They certainly need a few more bodies through the door.”
Are Tottenham looking to sign a Maddison replacement?
Maddison is expected to miss the best part of nine months, which is effectively the rest of the season.
Replacing him will not be easy, but there are a few quality Premier League players out there that have been linked with Spurs of late.
Possible Maddison replacements at Tottenham:
- Harvey Elliott (Liverpool)
- Jack Grealish (Man City)
- Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)
One of those names is Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who looks set to be on his way out of Anfield is his price tag can be met.
Jack Grealish is another, with his time at Manchester City coming to an end, while Eberechi Eze would undoubtedly be welcomed to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by supporters.
The good news is that there is still a few weeks of the window left, so let’s hope Daniel Levy springs into action before long.
