The Lewis family could actually regret sacking Daniel Levy as headline Tottenham figure emerges

Tottenham may soon find out that when it comes to Daniel Levy you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Tottenham announced that Levy stepped down as chairman on September 4 after almost 25 years in the role.

This was portrayed as an amicable decision, but it was soon widely reported that the Lewis family were keen for a new beginning at Tottenham, and one where Levy played less of a role in the management of the North London club.

While Tottenham fans will rejoice in Levy’s departure and Arsenal fans will be hoping it’s all a bad dream, Levy may have been even more important to the running of Spurs than initially believed.

Tottenham most profitable Premier League club under Daniel Levy

Levy has always been meticulous about his finances at Spurs, often accused of putting too much emphasis on the business side of things as opposed to the footballing side.

This is best reflected in his reluctance to invest in ‘big-name’ transfers over the years. Instead, he has focused more on business ventures such as the commissioning and building of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The transfers of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons to Tottenham had fans believing that he had turned over a new leaf. But it now appears that it was Joe Lewis, not Levy who taken Spurs in a different direction.

However, while the former Tottenham chairman may have played his cards close to his chest, his business ventures over the years seem to have done a lot of good for the North London club.

Tottenham were the most profitable Premier League club during the Levy era, according to Kieran Maguire via X on Thursday, 4 September.

With his expertise in business and eagle eye for making a profit, the Lewis family could grow to regret their decision to encourage him to step down.

Daniel Levy’s best moments at Tottenham

While the former Levy’s time as Tottenham chairman has come to an abrupt end after almost 25 years, he had some remarkable achievements during the period.

The first was the appointment of former Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle as manager. Hoddle replaced George Graham, who had led a poor tenure in North London.

While Hoddle struggled to win anything of significance at Tottenham, Levy was the strong hand needed to sack Graham, who most suspected was an Arsenal boy through and through.

Tottenham reached their first UEFA Champions League final during the 2018/19 season. While the Lilywhites went on to suffer a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, it is still regarded as one of the great feats of the Levy era.

But probably Levy’s greatest achievement is the inauguration of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the revamp of Hotspur Way. The state-of-the-art facilities have not only aided Tottenham on the pitch, but the stadium has also helped the North London club to profit.

Therefore, while most will rejoice that Levy is no longer chairman, he pioneered some historic feats during his time.
