Supercomputer predicts where Tottenham will finish in Champions League after Monaco draw

Tottenham have been unconvincing in the Champions League despite having a solid start to the domestic season.

Spurs defeated Villarreal in their first Champions League game this season, but the result was far from convincing.

Following that, the Lilywhites have drawn back-to-back games against Bodo/Glimt and Monaco in what looks to be a bit of a rut for the North London side

There is no doubt that Thomas Frank will want to turn things around, but it’s getting to the point where fans are unconvinced he can.

Tottenham predicted to finish 12th in league phase of Champions League

Tottenham’s odds in the Champions League were low to start with, despite Ange Postecoglou lifting the Europa League with the North London side.

Now, their odds have further plummeted with Opta’s Supercomputer predicting that Spurs will end the league phase in 12th position.

But considering Spurs are currently 15th in the table, some might say 12th would be an improvement.

And that would ultimately still mean Tottenham earning a place in the two-legged knockout playoff for a place in the last 16.

Still, many would have expected Spurs to be better off right now given the relative easiness of their fixtures.

What went wrong for Tottenham vs Monaco?

Perhaps the easier question to ask is what didn’t go wrong for Spurs in their draw to Monaco?

Guglielmo Vicario was a hero for Tottenham on the night, making eight saves from inside the box to keep both teams level.

Meanwhile, Frank’s side struggled to create quality chances, which has been an issue throughout the season.

Mohammed Kudus, who is usually the man players look to on the pitch, was nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, most of the Dane’s substitutes struggled to make an impact.

Other than Vicario, Randal Kolo Muani’s cameo was the only positive to take from the game.

The striker, who has spent most of his Spurs career so far on the sidelines due to injury, helped create one of the best chances of the game for Brennan Johnson towards the end.

Therefore, the Lilywhites will need to create and score a lot more if they want to finish in the top eight of the Champions League this season.
