Summer signings spotlight: How Tottenham’s new arrivals got on in win v Arsenal

Tottenham enjoyed their best moment of pre-season yet as they beat Arsenal 1-0 in Hong Kong on Thursday.

Thomas Frank’s men were very impressive and could have easily added to their one-goal lead against their North London rivals.

Spurs are continuing to try and add to their side this summer, after Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to North London failed to materialise.

Pape Matar Sarr netted the only goal of the game against the Gunners, and here, Tottenham News assesses how Frank’s new signings got on.

The Ghanaian international has only racked up an expected goals ratio of 0.16 across his three games against Tottenham’s rivals.

He also only managed 135 touches across those games in a West Ham shirt, but was more lively this time round.

Kudus was always a threat to Arsenal with his runs forward in the first half and showed promise with a couple of snap shots and easy-on-the-eye moments.

The 24-year-old drifted off in the second half before being taken off at the hour mark, as he showed that he can be exciting to watch next season.

Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso make an impact from the bench

Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso’s loans were made permanent this summer.

The pair were both useful in the North London derby last season, despite losing both games.

Tel showed that he can replicate last season’s form on Thursday when he came off the bench and played in a different central attacking role.

The Frenchman was unlucky not to provide an assist after coming on to find space and put in a cross that Micky van de Ven should have headed on target.

Danso came on for Cristian Romero in the final 30 minutes of the game and helped keep the Lilywhites’ backline secure and keep a clean sheet.

Elsewhere for Spurs, Luka Vuskovic was unlucky not to feature.

The 18-year-old centre back has impressed during preseason, most notably during the friendly against Reading.

Tottenham signed the defender in 2023, though the Croatian didn’t arrive in North London until 2025.
