Son slammed by ex-Man United ace after what happened to Tottenham team-mate
Ben Foster has slammed Tottenham captain Son Heung-min for not consoling Archie Gray after his own goal against Everton.
The 18-year-old converted into his own net at Goodison Park to hand the home side a three-goal lead just minutes before halftime on Sunday (19 January).
This was an unfortunate moment for the England Under-21s international, who had performed admirably despite Ange Postecoglou’s side hitting a poor run of form.
The issues at Spurs were summed up as no one came to console the ex-Leeds youngster after his own goal, which didn’t sit right with former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer on the Football Fill-In (21 January).
He said: “Having Archie Gray at the back who’s a fantastic player, unbelievable player, he’s being hung out to dry by playing him centre half, he’s doing a job but you’re putting no protection in front of him.
“I feel sorry for him for the third goal. He scores an own goal, he’s 18 years old, he’s been magnificent and no one goes over to him and says ‘Don’t worry, keep your head up.'”
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Foster added: “There’s no leaders in that team.
“In that instance with Archie Gray, you need a leader, you need a captain whether it’s Son or James Maddison, come up and put an arm round him and say ‘Mate, you’re giving us everything you’ve got an more.'”
Tottenham Son Heung-Min slammed after Archie Gray moment v Everton
The young midfielder came in from Elland Road in the summer in a deal which was met with plenty of excitement, and it is fair to say he has met expectations so far.
This is despite Gray being forced into multiple positions, including centre-back and left-back, which he has little experience in.
As a result, when he has to deal with a difficult moment such as scoring an own goal, he needs additional support from his teammates – and especially his captain – to know how good of a job he is doing.

Son just didn’t show that leadership to put his arm around the youngster and that just won’t help with the criticism that has surrounded him already this season.
