Son Heung-min reacts to confirmed Tottenham contract development

Son Heung-min struggled at Tottenham this season despite winning the UEFA Europa League.

After almost a decade at Tottenham, Son finally won silverware with the Lilywhites when he lifted the Europa League as their captain.

Despite this, the South Korean had a difficult season on a personal level, struggling to hit his usual heights and suffering from injuries. This has left many questioning whether he still has a future at Spurs.

Now, Son has reacted to a confirmed contract development as Tottenham prepare for a summer of change after sacking Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham extend Ben Davies’ contract until 2026

The Lilywhites have announced several departures, including former boss Postecoglou, after a dreadful Premier League campaign.

Indeed, Tottenham confirmed the release of three senior players on Saturday, 31 May. Alfie Whiteman, Fraser Forster and Sergio Reguilón were all let go after their contracts expired.

However, the statement did not make any mention of Ben Davies, despite the Welshman’s contract also initially being set to expire this summer.

Clarity has now been provided after Tottenham announced on Sunday (8 June) that they have exercised their option to extend Davies’ contract by a further year.

This will come as welcome news for supporters as well as Tottenham, as the North London club looks to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Davies is the Lilywhites’ longest-serving player after he transferred from Swansea City in 2014, but has accepted a secondary role in recent years. However, even as a rotational option, Spurs will need him and the rest of their squad players if they are going to succeed in Europe.

The defender remains a respected figure in North London and is incredibly close with Son, who joined Micky van de Ven and James Maddison in liking Tottenham’s post on Instagram.

Son may need to accept a rotational role at Tottenham

Son has been a beloved figure at Spurs over the years, but it seems his best days are already behind him.

The 32-year-old has even been linked with a move away from Tottenham as the Lilywhites look to invest in younger stars. A new manager is set to come in and will undoubtedly have his own vision and plans for the team.

And now that several young players have climbed through the ranks, there may not be a place for Son as a starter. Despite this, he remains an important voice in the dressing room, and Spurs will need him to lead their campaign in Europe next season.
