Son Heung-min footage emerges from South Korea after emotional Tottenham scenes

Tottenham fans are used to Son Heung-min making headlines, but they will be hesitant to accept this recent one.

Son has been a staple at Tottenham since he arrived in North London a decade ago.

There was a belief that he could be of use to Thomas Frank for the forthcoming season. Son has travelled with the Tottenham squad to South Korea to face Newcastle on Sunday (3 August), after participating in the Lilywhites’ recent pre-season fixtures.

While his performances were a little lethargic at points, the 33-year-old showed real promise against Arsenal in Hong Kong (31 July). However, things have now changed.

Son announces Tottenham departure

It was a long time coming for fans who have watched him decline over the past couple of seasons. However, that does not make the realisation of his exit any less meaningful.

Son has steadily been declining at Tottenham

There is no doubt that supporters all across the world shed a tear upon hearing the news, and it seems like they were not the only ones.

Tottenham posted a reel of Son via their Instagram on Saturday (2 August), where he stepped out to a round of applause from supporters ahead of an open training session in South Korea. Son looked relatively downbeat, having just announced his Spurs departure.

Son will leave Tottenham as a legend

When Tottenham announced the transfer of Son from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, no one had any idea how important he would become for the club.

For years, his dedication and performances on the pitch went unrewarded in the trophy department. But when others left the club in search of glory, Son stayed and continued his efforts to make history at Spurs.

And after ten years of exemplary service in North London, Son captained the Lilywhites to UEFA Europa League glory last season.

For his time, unwavering loyalty and joy he has brought Spurs supporters all over the world, Son deserves to be and will be remembered in the highest echelons of Tottenham history.
