Sky Sports forced to issue on-air apology after Tottenham report today
Rob Jones was forced into an on-air apology live on Sky Sports News after what happened at Tottenham.
The pressure is building on Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the shock 2-1 loss to Leicester City on Sunday (26 January).
With tension reaching boiling point, Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour was speaking live from outside the training ground when a youngster in the background was seen making an offensive gesture.
As the report ended and it cut back to the studio, presenter Jones replied: “Apologies for any offensive gestures you may have seen there.”
Tottenham in crisis mode in Premier League
Although Postecoglou has some backers in North London, not even the most optimistic of supporters can justify what happened on Sunday (26 January).
Richarlison gave the hosts a one-goal lead heading into the interval, but two quick-fire goals courtesy of Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss turned the deficit around five minutes after the restart.
For context, the Foxes’ win was only their third in the Premier League in four months of action, but it has now moved Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men one point clear of the relegation zone.
The Spurs boss, to Jeff Stelling’s dismay, attributed some blame for the loss to the absence of talisman James Maddison, but he does have a point.

Postecoglou is waiting to learn the extent of Maddison’s calf injury [Paul O Keefe], and should he return to the treatment table, the Englishman will join a long list in North London consisting of regular starters Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Djed Spence, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson.
Any Premier League manager would go light-headed as so many consistent performers miss a pivotal period of the Lilywhites’ campaign.
While the offensive gesture may be funny, it sums up the atmosphere in North London.
