Silva, Iraola or Frank? – Tottenham next manager update amid Postecoglou exit news

Tottenham Hotspur’s season is still intact by a minuscule margin, as Ange Postecoglou looks to salvage his reputation with the supporters with the Europa League trophy.

Postecoglou sees his fate hanging by a thread with the Premier League record woeful, the FA Cup done, and Europe now the only direct route to both silverware and continental football again next term.

Daniel Levy has not yet pushed the button on Postecoglou’s Spurs ejector seat, with a permanent appointment now likely to wait until the end of the season in any case.

Tottenham consider Premier League boss who made final three

When Postecoglou was plucked from Celtic in 2023, several other Premier League managers missed out on the role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a swoop for AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola (The Athletic, 27 March), who has carved out a brand of superb attacking dynamism on the South Coast and would cost a compensation amount of around £10million.

Other top-flight bosses in England are reportedly on the list of candidates should Levy decide to pull the plug on Postecoglou, including Marco Silva and Thomas Frank (The Athletic, 28 March).

Fulham manager Silva seems happy where he is and has now been at Craven Cottage for four seasons, though is understood to be closely monitored by Levy – and not for the first time.

Silva had made the final three-man shortlist to succeed Antonio Conte before Postecoglou arrived, so is already admired by Tottenham and is a manager who had already displayed his eagerness to move across London.

Fulham are understood to remain convinced they will keep hold of Silva, whose contract running until 2026 had a release clause in excess of £10million when it was first signed.

Marco Silva to Spurs?

It appears for now that Tottenham are maintaining Iraola as their primary target. Silva has as good a project relatively speaking than Iraola has at Bournemouth.

Frank at Brentford has long been admired, but has not had the historical contact with the Spurs board that Silva has.

Postecoglou is all too used to having to put this to the back of his mind and attempt to deliver for Tottenham using his own established style of play.

Should he lift the Europa League trophy, the season suddenly has to be considered a success – albeit papering over many, many cracks – and the future plan becomes a whole lot blurrier for Levy and co.
