Sergio Reguilon movement starts already after Tottenham exit announcement

Sergio Reguilon is on the lookout for a new club after being shown the exit door at Tottenham.

The Spanish defender signed for Spurs in 2020 but struggled to make an impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He was sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford during his time as a Spurs player, failing to make any impact.

This season, he made just six appearances in white, and it has been announced that Tottenham will let his contract expire this summer.

However, it appears he’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a new club.

Several clubs to battle for Reguilon signature

Fabrizio Romano has reported that several clubs are already in talks with Reguilon.

In a post on X, the Italian suggested that the former Real Madrid star is now assessing his options.

Tottenham officially confirmed Reguilon’s departure in a statement on Saturday, with Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman also on the way out.

Reguilon made 76 appearances for Tottenham, scoring two goals.

He has previously been linked with moves to Real Sociedad and Sevilla, as well as Turkish clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray.

Huge changes needed at Tottenham this summer

It will hardly be a surprise to anyone that Reguilon wasn’t offered a new contract at Tottenham.

He had been sent out on loan several times, hardly featured in the Premier League and wasn’t even registered for Spurs’ Europa League squad.

Even during Tottenham’s injury crisis, he was barely called upon.

Few tears will be shed following the Spaniard’s departure. In fact, he was in danger of becoming a hate figure after hurting Brennan Johnson in training just days before the Europa League final.

Spurs fans shouldn’t be surprised to see several other first-team players leaving the club this summer.

Ange Postecoglou will be encouraged to engage in a clear-out following his team’s dreadful performance in the Premier League.

This will help to create the funds needed to improve on their woeful league position and compete in the Champions League next season.
