Roy Keane says why Ange Postecoglou may not be sacked at Tottenham

Ange Postcoglou finds himself on the edge at Tottenham with his job hanging in the balance.

It has been a shocking season for Spurs and sitting 14th in the Premier League is certainly not where the Lilywhites thought they’d find themselves at this stage.

Furthermore, having been knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, only success in the Europa League could save Spurs’ season now.

Roy Keane makes Ange Postecoglou prediction

Ange Postecoglou is on the brink of the sack every week, with no clear signs of improvement, it seems.

There is the feeling from some that sacking the manager will make no difference as the issues stem from Daniel Levy’s neglectful ownership.

However, although there are a high number of injuries in the Spurs squad, the Australian’s unwillingness to adapt his style of play to suit the players he does have available has also led to plenty of criticism.

Nevertheless, Roy Keane admitted he thinks one thing could keep Postecoglou holding on to his job as he said on ITV Sport (11 February): “They’re still in Europe.

“That might just keep the enthusiasm enough from the owner I think.”

Tottenham need to go all out in Europe

Given their struggles in the Premier League this term, Spurs are well aware that bringing silverware to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be the only thing that could save their season.

Furthermore, the boss’ insistence on his ability to win a trophy in his second year as a manager with a club has only piled on the pressure to meet these expectations.

Although it was looking positive for the Lilywhites, a 4-0 loss against Liverpool saw them crash out of the Carabao Cup with a 4-1 loss on aggregate to prevent them from a Wembley trip.

Just days later, Postecoglou’s side then lost to Aston Villa which put them out of the FA Cup too, meaning the Europa League is all that is left for Tottenham to win this term.

With this in mind, although picking up points in the Premier League is important, surely the North London outfit has to put all their energy towards winning the Europa League.

While a trophy wouldn’t mean all is fixed and forgiven at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would certainly reassure supporters that Postecoglou is the man who can take them to success, even in difficult circumstances.

Therefore, this would only take pressure off Postecoglou’s shoulders and suggest that the future could be a brighter time for the Lilywhites.
