Romano ‘confirms what every Tottenham fan expected’ with Postecoglou sack news

Ange Postecoglou has been the subject of many speculative conversations this season as the pressure has piled on at Tottenham.

The Lilywhites sit 15th in the Premier League table amid an incredibly disappointing season in north London, leaving plenty of questions over the boss.

However, progression in the Europa League has left Daniel Levy with no choice but to keep things the way they are for now.

Fabrizio Romano delivers Postecoglou update

There have been plenty of questions aimed at Tottenham’s hierarchy when it comes to the plan for the future of management, with many starting to feel that Postecoglou is not up to the required standards.

Sitting as low as they do in the table, closer to relegation than Europe, is certainly not up to the expected standards.

Furthermore, Spurs will know what they will lose out both on and off the pitch if they are not playing European football again next season.

With that in mind, the Europa League is crucial for Tottenham to ensure financial sustainability going forward, giving supporters the hope of fixing some of the current problems.

The Lilywhites beat Frankfurt 1-0 in the second leg of their tie to go through to the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory on aggregate.

Up next is a tie against Bodo/Glimt, whom Spurs are definitely expected to overcome in the hopes of progressing to the final of the competition.

Postecoglou will know how important the competition is too, with suggestions that this is the only thing keeping him in a job, something Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed.

Writing for GiveMeSport (20 April), Romano said: “As I always said, the focus is on the Europa League, so this was always the case [that Postecoglou will be in charge while they are still in the competition].”

Postecoglou needs Tottenham to show up

It’s not surprising that the Europa League is the condition for Postecoglou to keep his job because even if Spurs win that trophy this season, the campaign overall will still be looked back on as a disaster.

The Lilywhites may be the favourites in their semi-final tie, but if the north London outfit have shown one thing this season, it’s that they can beat anyone just as easily as they can lose against anyone.

There have been reports that senior players, including James Maddison, have clashed with the Australian behind the scenes, which could have dire consequences for the boss.

However, given no one has performed to the best of their capabilities at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou will be desperate that his players are able to turn up and put in a performance for him.

Although Tottenham are looking to end their drought without a trophy, the competition has a lot more riding on it this season.
