Roberto De Zerbi announcement made as Tottenham sack Thomas Frank

Roberto De Zerbi could now become the next Tottenham manager.

De Zerbi was linked to Tottenham previously, but the North London club opted to bring in Thomas Frank from Brentford.

Frank has now been sacked by Tottenham as results and performances have placed Spurs firmly in a relegation battle.

The Dane didn’t help himself as Tottenham fell to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle on Tuesday in yet another Tottenham Hotspur Stadium loss.

The Lilywhites’ hierarchy has seen enough with a managerial change ready, with De Zerbi mooted as one of the favourite options.

Roberto De Zerbi available after Marseille exit

De Zerbi was linked to Spurs just under two weeks ago as pressure continued to build surrounding the manager in N17.

It is safe to say that things have only gotten worse for Frank in the games since then, with defeats against Manchester United and Newcastle being the final straw.

Somehow, Frank only just outlasted De Zerbi, though.

The French outfit confirmed the news that De Zerbi had been sacked on Wednesday as the OM hierarchy decided to make a change in the dugout.

Their club statement has described this choice as a “difficult, collective decision, reached after careful consideration and in the best interests of the club“.

This comes after De Zerbi was seen telling Leonardo Balerdi to leave while in the dressing room, something which hasn’t helped his case to stay.

That could now leave the door open for Spurs to swoop in and bring the Italian in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after his dramatic exit.

De Zerbi to Tottenham odds slashed

With the ex-Brighton boss now out of a job, it could allow the Lilywhites to confirm a cut-price move if they want him as their new head coach.

The odds point towards that desire, with odds shortening with bookmakers to see De Zerbi named as the second favourite to take over at Tottenham.

He now sits at 7/4, narrowly behind Mauricio Pochettino at 6/4 and ahead of Robbie Keane and Xavi, who come in at 6/1.

Tottenham next manager odds:

With Pochettino planning for a home World Cup with the United States in the upcoming summer, the Argentine is unlikely to come in for months.

Xavi is unlikely to step in, which makes it a likely shootout between De Zerbi and a temporary team, with the likes of Ryan Mason now available after being sacked by West Brom.

Do Spurs fans want an interim team in charge when Premier League relegation is on the line with 12 games to play? Probably not.

After Frank, the supporters want passion and someone who truly cares, which is what De Zerbi offers in abundance, with the time right to take that chance with the Italian.
