Rob Mackenzie quits Aston Villa, set to join up with Tottenham as chief scout – Matt Law
Rob Mackenzie has left Aston Villa and will join Tottenham as their new chief scout next week, according to Daily Telegraph correspondent Matt Law.
Writing via his personal X account on 1 November, Law revealed that Mackenzie has left his post at Villa and will return to the North London club within a matter of days.
It will see him reconnect with Johan Lange – who recently made the same career move from Villa Park to The Lane.
Mackenzie previously worked at Tottenham and was involved in the signing of Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen. He was also involved in the signing of Riyad Mahrez during his time at Leicester City between 2011 and 2015.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has told Tottenham News:
“I have no confidence in either Lange or Mackenzie after what they did together at Aston Villa, to be honest. I imagine this has come from Mile Jedinak’s recommendation.
“Jedinak was at Aston Villa with them and I have nothing against him, he was a good honest footballer who is now doing a decent job as part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching team. But I don’t think these new additions will improve the recruitment at Tottenham.

“People I know in the football world, and people from Denmark, were surprised when Lange first got the job at Aston Villa.
“Just look at what they did at Villa, look at the players they brought in, and how money was badly spent. I am not impressed at all, if that is the way Tottenham wants to go then fine, but I am not impressed. To be honest, Spurs’ recruitment has not been good for the past ten years.
“I am not sure how long these two will last, but as long as the manager is winning, everyone around him will be sitting tightly. As soon as they start to lose, it could be a different situation.”
