Richard Keys stuns beIN SPORTS studio with Tottenham takeover claim, ‘Wow’

Daniel Levy has only kept faith in Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham due to a potential takeover being “in the air”, Richard Keys has said.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS (2 February), Keys argued Levy has been much quicker to sack managers who were in better positions than Postecoglou, whose Spurs side are in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Suggesting that Levy would be hesitant to bring in a new manager if he’s already got one eye on the exit door in North London, Keys suggested that this is the key reason behind Postecoglou still being in post.

He said: “My instinct tells me something’s happening, and that something, I think is a takeover in the air – and that may be sooner rather than later.”

“Wow”, Andy Gray replied.

Keys continued: “[When] a new group take over a football club, they want their own man – why would Levy sack Postecoglou now, [and] put in a new man that might not suit prospective new owners.

“That’s the clue for me, because I can’t imagine that Levy would be this patient for any other reason.”

Daniel Levy plays waiting game for Tottenham takeover

Levy and Postecoglou have both been met with plenty of calls to leave from the embattled Spurs fanbase in recent weeks, with the Australian’s side currently on a woeful run of form in the top flight.

Despite Postecoglou’s side having won just one of their last 11 Premier League games prior to Sunday’s (2 February) 2-0 victory at Brentford, it’s Levy who is seen as a far more unpopular figure in the eyes of supporters.

The Lilywhites are in rude health off the field and have taken plenty of steps in this regard during Levy and ENIC’s tenure, the biggest of which is their world-leading, state of the art new stadium.

However, a lack of silverware in the same period – with several near-misses – has put Levy’s on-field contributions under the microscope, with the consensus being that Spurs need to reach the next level.

Previous takeover talks being mooted have never gotten off the ground, but if Levy is hanging onto Postecoglou with his own exit in mind, it remains to be seen how soon a buyout would come for Spurs.
