Richard Keys names manager Tottenham are already in talks with – ‘Wow’

Tottenham have been linked with several managers as Ange Postecoglou is under serious pressure, and have reportedly even spoken to one target.

Spurs have reached the Europa League final, but even winning it may not be enough to save Postecoglou after a dismal league season.

Tottenham are currently 17th in the Premier League, and may consider themselves fortunate that the bottom three did not put up more of a fight against relegation.

Broadcaster Richard Keys has now claimed that one out-of-work manager has spoken to Tottenham about replacing Postecoglou, and it is certainly an interesting prospect.

Tottenham spoke to Xavi about replacing Postecoglou

Keys has now torn into Postecoglou, and stated that even if Spurs beat Manchester United in the Europa League final, the Australian cannot survive the season.

“What can we say about Tottenham? Wow. Have a look at the bottom of the table. Even if he wins the Europa League Ange can’t survive now,” Keys wrote on his blog (12 May).

Tottenham have had a woeful domestic campaign

The presenter has now revealed that Spurs have spoken to legendary former Barcelona midfielder and manager Xavi over replacing Postecoglou.

“I heard from a really good source last week Spurs have spoken with Xavi,” he added.

“That makes a lot of sense. Sadly for Spurs I’m also told he’s not ready to return to coaching yet. Or perhaps he’s even smarter than we thought?”

Xavi could be a good appointment for Tottenham

As it stands, convincing Xavi to take the Tottenham job could be a tough ask, especially if they lose the Europa League final and miss out on Europe.

However, if he ends up joining, the former Spain star could be a good appointment for Tottenham. Xavi won La Liga with Barcelona in 2022 in difficult circumstances as the club faced a lot of financial hardships and transfer restrictions.

Although his time at Barcelona did not end well as he departed in 2023, Xavi built a winning side while also giving opportunities to young players, and getting the best out of most of the players at his disposal.

It is unclear what Xavi has planned next, but taking on a rebuild job at Spurs could be a good move for him now after his stint at Barcelona, if he is ready to return to the dugout.
