Rangers next manager: Mourinho in shock contention for return to British football

Jose Mourinho could be set for a return to British football with Rangers, four years on from his Tottenham exit.

The Gers have found themselves on the managerial merry-go-round once again, as Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties in what has been a terrible domestic campaign.

Spurs faced the Govan-based outfit earlier in the season in the Europa League league stage, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The game at Ibrox was fairly end-to-end throughout, with Dejan Kulusevski’s equalising strike being Spurs’ saving grace from the clash.

With Clement now relieved of his duties, Patrick Stewart’s search for his replacement is ongoing with Mourinho linked with taking over the hot seat.

Mourinho mooted to be in contention for Rangers job

The last time the Portuguese manager was in a hot seat in Britain was when he was in charge of Tottenham.

While there were some fond memories created during his time at the helm, the end of his stay ended with fans having something of a sour taste in their mouths.

This resulted in Mourinho taking his next couple of career steps outside of the United Kingdom’s limelight and ending up in charge of Roma and now Fenerbahce.

With a plethora of names being consistently linked with the Gers’ managerial position, Bet 365 (5 March) now have Mourinho at 25/1 to become the next man at the helm, which is higher than Ryan Mason, who has also been linked with Rangers.

This may be partly explained by the fact Mourinho said on Wednesday (5 March), ahead of facing Rangers in the Europa League, he’d be open to managing the Gers or fierce rivals Celtic one day.

Tottenham sticking with Ange Postecoglou

Although the futures of many managers have already been heavily discussed this season, Ange Postecoglou is the man who seems to continually survive.

The Australian has overseen a pretty terrible domestic campaign up to this point, but that is partly explained by the large number of injuries to key players.

The Premier League table as it stands.

When Spurs have all their players fit, such as Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, they’re a far better team.

While the likes of Kevin Danso and Archie Gray have done solid jobs of filling in, they’re not on the same level.

Many managers have been linked with taking over from Postecoglou, but as we’re now nearing the end of the season, it’s pointless to replace the former Celtic boss at this stage.

Indeed, Mourinho would likely reinvigorate the fan base and potentially the team, but seen as though Daniel Levy has kept Postecoglou at the helm for this long, they may as well see the campaign out with him in charge.
