Premier League release statement as VAR shuts down in Tottenham v Forest

Tottenham struggled in front of their home fans as a rampant Nottingham Forest spoiled the party on Monday night.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, aiming to secure a spot in the Champions League, needed the three points to return to the top three.

They certainly helped their cause by taking a two-goal lead in the first 17 minutes of the game.

VAR continues to dominate headlines in the Premier League

The Premier League Match Centre took to X to issue a rather strange announcement about VAR.

Usually, an account that’s there to explain refereeing decisions and communicate it to the fans, they stated that there was a fire scare at Stockley Park.

As the fire alarm went off, they announced that the match would be operating without VAR until further notice.

Via X, they wrote: “The match will be operating without VAR until further notice due to a fire alarm at the VAR Hub at Stockley Park.”

However, within a couple of minutes, they announced that VAR was once again up and running.

Tottenham were assisted by VAR in the first half

Things would’ve been a lot worse for Spurs if the VAR had gone off right when Nottingham Forest seemed to have scored their second goal.

Chris Wood was marginally offside as the technology rightly spotted, but in open play, the linesman did not raise his flag.

This Spurs display further proves Ange Postecoglou cannot remain manager next season.

Despite dominating possession, Spurs failed to score and kept looking vulnerable on the break.

Tottenham’s trophyless streak since 2008 demands a manager who can deliver results and silverware, not one presiding over a deepening crisis with no clear tactical solutions.

Andoni Iraola and Simone Inzaghi are strong managerial options for Spurs.

Iraola brings a modern, high-pressing style to Bournemouth, making them the Premier League’s hardest-running team.

Inzaghi, the Inter Milan will offer trophy-winning pedigree and tactical nous with his 3-5-2 system – something that would suit this side.
