Premier League make announcement about VAR incident in Tottenham v Southampton
Ange Postecoglou will be fuming once again as the Premier League make an announcement about a VAR incident in the clash between Tottenham and Southampton.
Tensions were high ahead of kick-off against the Saints at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (6 April) as Spurs supporters took to the streets to protest against Daniel Levy and ENIC.
Attention then turned to the football, as Postecoglou took a big risk for the Premier League clash by leaving one key Tottenham player on the bench.
In the end, this didn’t seem to matter too much, as Spurs went into the break two goals to the good against Southampton, even with one attacker underperforming for Postecoglou’s side.
However, things could have been very different at half-time after a major VAR incident in the first half.

Premier League make announcement as Tottenham goal overturned
Postecoglou was unhappy with VAR after Pape Matar Sarr’s goal was disallowed in Spurs’ 1-0 Premier League defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (3 April), a situation made even more frustrating for the Australian considering his reaction to the Tottenham fans after the goal went in.
Therefore, the 59-year-old isn’t likely to be best pleased after VAR got involved once again on Sunday.
Brennan Johnson opened the scoring and eventually doubled Spurs’ lead with his second of the afternoon.

Brennan Johnson | 40 | 14 | 4 |
However, in between these two goals, Lucas Bergvall thought he had put the hosts two ahead after netting his first Premier League goal, only to see the strike ruled out after a lengthy VAR check.
The Premier League made an official announcement about the incident via PLMatchCentre on X (6 April), writing, “VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that [Cristian] Romero was in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”

Tottenham must focus on task at hand
It no doubt would have been frustrating to see another goal ruled out by VAR after a lengthy check.
However, in the end, it didn’t matter too much as Spurs doubled their lead minutes later and now look on course to secure a much-needed win over Southampton.
Therefore, the players – Bergvall in particular – need to put this out of their minds and focus on the task at hand in the second half.
