Premier League make announcement about major Tottenham v Man City controversy

Manchester City secured a 1-0 win over Tottenham but there was late controversy in the game surrounding Erling Haaland.

While the Citizens did manage to secure the three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they feel that they were denied a late goal.

VAR checked the video evidence for a long time before ruling the goal out as handball, denying the Norway international his second of the game.

Archie Gray not mentioned in the Premier League announcement on Erling Haaland’s disallowed goal

The Premier League broadcasters showed different angles of the incident and it did seem like the ball came off Archie Gray’s arm.

It also showed Kevin Danso and Gray on either side of Haaland and that the ball even made contact with Danso’s hand.

However, their decision to rule out the strike was that there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the handball given against the City forward.

The league wrote on X: “The referee’s call of no goal for a handball by Haaland was checked and confirmed by VAR – with no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision.”

Ange Postecoglou has few positives to take from the game

While Spurs lost the game, it certainly is not all doom and gloom for Ange Postecoglou.

He has rightly been criticised for his side’s performances this season, but this was some effort from his players.

They had more possession than a Pep Guardiola team – 55 per cent to 45 per cent and even completed 100 more passes than them, per Sofascore.

Ederson also made six saves compared to Guglielmo Vicario’s four – showcasing that Spurs did create decent opportunities in the final third.

They had two big chances too, but failed to make the most of them.

Fans will be asking their side to play like this, not just against the big teams, but in every game as they’ve dropped points against teams they should be blowing apart.

Players are returning from injury so that’s another positive for the manager and hopefully they can channel this form into their displays in Europe and winning the Europa League.
