Postecolgou ‘all or nothing’ game emerges as Sutton drops Tottenham sack verdict

Ange Postecoglou cannot afford to make Tottenham the worst club in London, according to Chris Sutton.

Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman reckons Postecoglou will not be Spurs manager for much longer after losing 2-1 to Arsenal on Wednesday, 15 January.

He reckons the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield on 6 February will be “all or nothing” for the Greek-Australian manager.

“Poor old Ange Postecoglou, he is in trouble, I think”, Ladyman said on Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast (16 January).

“Another defeat, I don’t think he’ll be Spurs manager for much longer.

“I think that the Carabao Cup second leg at Liverpool in a couple of weeks is beginning to feel like all or nothing for the Tottenham manager.

“It can’t be allowed to go on much longer, I’m afraid.”

Sutton, who agreed the Liverpool game could determine Postecoglou’s future, pointed out that Spurs are currently the “worst team in London” in the Premier League alongside Crystal Palace.

“He needs results and results quickly, doesn’t he”, the pundit said.

“West Ham have gone above them in the Premier League, Palace are on the same points.

“They can’t become the worst team in London, but it is a problem.

“He needs a result or two and you are right about the Liverpool game.”

Sutton may be wrong, Tottenham may sack Postecoglou before Liverpool game

Postecoglou promised to deliver a trophy at Tottenham this season. Thus, it is easy to see why the Liverpool game can be detrimental to the former Celtic boss.

Spurs would be in the EFL Cup final if they manage to defend their one-goal lead at Anfield in three weeks’ time, meaning Postecoglou would be one step away from keeping his word.

However, it is unclear if the 59-year-old will be in charge of the North London giants by that point.

Daniel Levy will have a decision to make if Postecoglou fail to register a win against relegation-battling Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, 19 January.

Other managers have already started being linked with taking the reins from Postecoglou, and as the saying goes, there is smoke without fire.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has emerged as an option on the bookmakers’ list, while Newcastle’s Eddie Howe has also been mentioned.
