Postecoglou speaks out as ‘Tottenham set to announce major exit’

Tottenham are set for a summer of a major change off the pitch after a dismal campaign.

Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both domestic cups, with the Europa League representing their only chance of success.

Speculation over Ange Postecoglou’s future continues to thrive and there could be an overhaul in the boardroom too as the North London club tries to avoid another poor season.

Postecoglou comments as exit rumours swirl

The impending arrival of Vinai Venkatesham has led to rumours surrounding the future of chief football officer Scott Munn.

Daniel Levy‘s number two faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with his exit – which would be considered a major development – said to be close.

Asked directly about Munn’s possible exit, Postecoglou told reporters ahead of the Nottingham Forest clash on Monday (21 April): “He’s in charge of pretty much all the football matters, particularly from an administration standpoint.

“He’s in charge of various departments that report in, you know football operations. I deal with him probably on a daily basis, you know, he works really, really hard. He’s very diligent with everything he does. He’s very focused on.

“What we need to build here, and he’s an important part of what we’re doing. I don’t think he does it in the shadows. I think it’s pretty evident.

“Like I said, obviously you don’t hear from him, you don’t hear from a lot of people at the club, you just hear from me, but I’m certainly not the one who does all the work around the football operations. It’s a massive, massive part of any football club, particularly this one, and Scott plays a huge role in that.”

Tottenham set for summer overhaul

The most important aspect of the Lilywhites’ summer is the transfer window, with several reinforcements needed to improve the playing squad.

However, change behind the scenes is also vital as supporters continue to rage about the way that Levy runs the club.

Spurs have had a severely underwhelming campaign.

It was hoped that the appointment of Venkatesham would lead to the controversial figure relinquishing some control but that does not appear to be the case.

It remains to be seen what effect the hiring of the former Arsenal man has on Munn’s position and perhaps more importantly, how it impacts Postecoglou’s future.

It may well be a case of both men departing but nothing is certain at the moment.

Focus should be on finishing their mission and bringing a trophy back to North London, which would end a 17-year trophy drought, then the club can assess any backroom changes that they want to make.

If he does leave, Munn will not be remembered very fondly – he has not achieved anything positive in his time in N17 and it would not be a surprise to see him depart from his role prematurely.

One thing is for sure: Something needs to change as Spurs simply cannot have another season like this, otherwise the atmosphere will become even more toxic than it already is.
