Postecoglou sack: Tottenham ‘review set’ as major concern emerges

Ange Postecoglou isn’t a popular figure at Tottenham right now, with the Australian manager under pressure of being sacked.

Daniel Levy has been trigger-happy at Spurs over the years, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the former Celtic boss getting the boot in the coming weeks.

The North London outfit have endured one of their worst seasons, and fans have grown weary of their team’s dire circumstances.

Postecoglou’s team are 14th in the Premier League, and with just seven more domestic fixtures left, things look bleak for the Lilywhites, raising serious concerns about the Australian manager.

Tottenham to review Postecoglou position when season ends

Spurs will review Postecoglou’s position in N17 once the season ends, Graham Roberts says.

The former defender, who spent six years at the North London outfit, believes the 59-year-old head coach’s future will be scrutinised in the coming months.

Roberts feels there are mitigating circumstances, but the fans’ growing frustration is a concern for the Lilywhites.

Speaking to EPL Index (7 April), the 65-year-old said: “At the end of the season, I suspect the board to review the season and Postecoglou’s position. There are mitigating circumstances, but it’s up to the board to decide what direction they want to go in.

“Let’s see what happens, but the supporters are getting frustrated now, which is a concern.”

Levy decision inevitable if Postecoglou fails Europa League test

Postecoglou’s only hope of silverware remains the Europa League, and failure to win that competition may lead to his departure.

Spurs will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the quarter-finals at home on Thursday (10 April).

The North London outfit will evidently be the favourites to get through to the next round, but their form of late has been concerning.

Tottenham have won just one of their last five Premier League matches, losing three of them, and Dino Toppmoller’s won’t be pushovers as they sit third in the Bundesliga.

Spurs were beaten by AZ Alkmaar away from home in the last-16 of the European competition before making a comeback at home.

The North London outfit can’t afford similar slip-ups against the Bundesliga outfit, as they’ll be punished.

Postecoglou has most of his key players back from the sidelines, and the Lilywhites need to put on a convincing display on Thursday.

Failure to get past Frankfurt could potentially be the end of the Australian manager before a review can be conducted in the summer.
