Postecoglou sack: Michael Dawson adamant as ‘unacceptable’ Tottenham claim made

Michael Dawson believes Tottenham have the right man in charge in Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian is under immense pressure in North London, and his immediate future hinges on Sunday’s (26 January) result against Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Dawson launched a scathing defence of the Spurs boss live on Sky Sports News (25 January, 2:08pm) and believes Daniel Levy would struggle to appoint a better manager than Postecoglou.

He said: “One thing with Ange, [is that] he always comes out and fronts up. You look at the injuries – it’s mind-blowing. I agree with Merse, I see no reason to change – never in a million years. Even if they lose tomorrow against Leicester, where do they go?

“Pochettino never won anything; Mourinho, Conte, Nuno. The fans with Nuno, it was like ‘wow, this is defensive’. Look what he’s doing now. It’s unacceptable at Spurs to play that way, even if you’re getting results.”

Tottenham to stick with Ange Postecoglou

A lot has been made of Postecoglou’s performances at Spurs this season, but until now, there has been no compelling case in his favour.

Tottenham are rooted in the bottom half of the Premier League table in January, only eight points clear of the drop zone – it is not a wild claim to suggest a relegation battle is on the cards in North London.

The promoted sides are likely heading towards an immediate return to the Championship, but Postecoglou should consider himself lucky to still be in a job.

Although Dawson suggests Nuno Espirito Santo plays “unacceptable” football compared to Spurs’ standards, Tim Sherwood believes the North London outfit should be “embarrassed” for how things ended with their former boss.

Nuno’s Nottingham Forest are defying the odds in the Premier League and they currently sit 20 points ahead of the Lilywhites, behind second-placed Arsenal on goal difference alone.

Indeed, Postecoglou plays an expansive brand of attacking football, but his stubbornness has cost him dearly this year, particularly his inability to alter his tactics amid a severe injury crisis.

However, football is a results business, and Levy is a businessman first and foremost – he will not hesitate to pull the trigger on Postecoglou if results do not improve immediately.
