Postecoglou sack: Fulham boss Marco Silva odds slashed after Tottenham revelation

Fulham boss Marco Silva’s odds of becoming the next Tottenham manager have been slashed, despite Daniel Levy standing by Ange Postecoglou for the time being.

The Daily Mail reported [21 January] that chairman Levy is set to give the Australian time to turn things around in North London, with injuries and recruitment struggles playing their part in the side’s poor season.

In a further revelation, it is suggested that Marco Silva and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are two names being mentioned to potentially succeed Postecoglou.

The pressure is continuing to mount on Postecoglou, and Fulham boss Silva is now the third favourite to be appointed with odds of 11/2 according to PaddyPower.

It isn’t unfair to note that Tottenham have had their struggles this term, and injuries particularly have not helped the Australian in his ability to take his team up the table where they want to be.

However, the boss’ insistence on playing a certain way has certainly been a downfall of his side’s lack of success this term, and a lack of adaptability from the manager means he has to take some responsibility.

The 3-2 loss against Everton on Sunday (19 January) flattered the Lilywhites, who did not look anywhere close to a Toffees side who have themselves endured a tough campaign.

The North London outfit have a big week ahead with Europa League action against Hoffenheim on Thursday (23 January), before facing relegation-threatened side Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday (26 January).

Therefore, while the board may be backing Postecoglou for now, if the week ahead goes wrong, Levy may soon have to make a change.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs would have to pay a significant compensation fee to land this managerial target.
