Postecoglou odds shift drastically after major Tottenham sack development

Ange Postecoglou has seemed to be a dead man walking at Tottenham for the past few months.

The Australian has been under severe pressure after guiding Spurs to a miserable season in the Premier League with a 17th-placed finish.

The Australian managed to salvage the campaign with the Europa League final win over Manchester United (21 May), but there was still a lot of speculation surrounding his future even after that sensational victory.

However, it appears it has now been resolved, and Daniel Levy is close to a decision on what direction he will go in.

Postecoglou set to stay at Tottenham

Several contenders had been linked with a potential vacancy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the noise about the current incumbent’s future rising on a weekly basis.

The likes of Xavi Hernandez, Thomas Frank and Marco Silva have all been the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Postecoglou at one point.

Former Ajax manager Francesco Farioli emerged as a new contender last week after he decided to leave the Dutch club.

However, a report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (31 May) claims that the chances of the Australian staying in North London have increased.

The bookmakers’ odds reflect this, with the 59-year-old now odds-on at 4/7 with Bet365 to remain as the Lilywhites manager.

It is a huge twist as it seemed like Postecoglou would definitely lose his job after a dismal showing for the majority of the season.

Tottenham could benefit from keeping Postecoglou

Postecoglou proved his resilience this season, a disastrous injury campaign wreaked havoc on his plans and he still came away with a trophy.

It would have been extremely harsh to hand him his marching orders after he won their first trophy since the League Cup triumph in 2008.

It seems like the Australian will now be given the chance to lead Spurs in the Champions League and he should get the full backing from the extra finances that it will bring to.

However, Levy could change his mind at any point, there are probably going to be several more twists and turns in this saga.

For now, though, the former Celtic man can focus on getting his team ready for next season rather than being unemployed.
